We made yet another Best Flowers List!

To us it's all about the flowers - the true star of the show - not the packaging and definitely not the copious amount of unnecessary layers of wrapping! So it was nice to be recognised in an industry list by Flower Delivery Reviews.

Excerpt from the post:
"Nook Flowers is a boutique floral and event design firm based in Kuala Lumpur. They offer bespoke and luxurious floral designs using tasteful colour palettes and incorporating Nook’s signature whimsical style with a touch of bohemian flair, shabby chic or vintage elegance is added. This makes each bouquet or arrangement unique. Nook Flowers uses locally sourced, seasonal flowers, natural packaging and recycled materials as much as possible in line with their commitment to the environment and conducting business in harmony with nature."

Proudly made in Malaysia, Nook Flowers celebrates the art of bespoke and luxurious floristry.
We are a small business that strives to design arrangements that are personal to your sentiments. Our talented, passionate and knowledgeable Floristas create floral art with local flowers as our first choice, but we love working with any and all flowers. Everything is hand crafted to order.
We care deeply about the environment and are committed to conducting our business in harmony with nature. To us the emphasis is flora - full of colour, texture and vibrant in themselves; the packaging is secondary and should never detract from the flowers. This is why most of our bouquets are wrapped in the most minimalist of ways, or why we choose foam-free arrangements wherever possible. We encourage customers to bring in their upcycled containers and we opt for natural packaging. Not the easiest of routes but we try hard to walk the talk on this.

We believe in magic - the blooms and botanicals kind.

A White and Succulent Wedding

Wedding flowers that were literally planned from the other side of the world. The couple lived in Portland and in the months leading up to their big day here in KL all the little details were put together via a series of diligent emails and messages.

Congratulations M&J on your beautiful wedding. M's bridal bouquet featured a lush, textured mix of hydrangeas, roses, ranunculus, eustoma, and assorted jadeite hued succulents. With 5 elements, it was a large and heavy one for the bride but she loved it and we love how well this showstopper turned out!

The Groom had matching boutonnières (for day and night use) with a sampling of the mix from the bridal bouquet.

Meanwhile the rest of the bridal party were given pinned corsaged with a composition of rose and lilac hued caspia with just a touch of greenery to bring the look together.

This is the intricate root system that nurtures succulents. When used in a bouquet composition, the roots are left intact and wrapped-up carefully. That way, when the flowers have faded, the bride has the option of growing and propagating them as a growing and lasting memory of her wedding bouquet.

In case you're wondering how such delicate flowers withstood the recent heatwave we were experiencing in this part of the world - well simply put we left nothing to chance! Here's a behind-the-scenes glance at one of the mechanics put into place to make sure the flowers were optimum.

June's Flower of the Month: Lily

Come June, Come Lily!

Lily symbolism
The lily is full of symbolism, with its main connotations being:
  • Femininity. In Greek and Roman times brides were given a crown of lilies, in the hope for a pure and fertile life.
  • Love. In Victorian times people knew when they received a sweet smelling lily that: ‘this is my lover’.
  • Purity. White lilies were often used at weddings as a sign of virginity and purity.
  • Transience. The serene and pure appearance of the lily expresses emotion in times of loss and grieving.
Origin
The lily originates from various places. In the wild they can be found in Korea, Japan and parts of Siberia but also closer to the equator in India. In Europe the lily is native to the Caucasus, the Balkans, Greece, Poland, the Alps and the Pyrenees. They can also be found in the wild in most American states with the exception of the south west quarter.

Blooming at Mud: The Story of Kuala Lumpur

It took a couple of weeks after the show opened but we finally had a break in our schedule and promptly took the opportunity to watch MUD: OUR STORY OF KUALA LUMPUR from start to finish and what a visual treat it was. We did catch bits and bob during installation stages and it looked very promising but watching the actual show in itself from start to finish will leave you wanting more. If you haven't caught it yet, please do go and get swept up in this heartwarming production which is set against historical events of early Kuala Lumpur. You can get details on show times and ticketing at MudKL.

On a special note, I am proud to add that when you step into the grand dame that is the Panggung Bandaraya, the towering floral displays in the foyer were created by Nook Flowers - we'd like to say a huge thank you to Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina, the Executive Producer of MUD Kuala Lumpur, for the free hand and letting our Principal Florista design, compose and create ' some floral magic' (as Puan Sri Tiara says).

While we specialise in fresh flowers, for this display, we used the highest quality selection of flowers we could find (as the displays are permanent and will be used for the duration of the show). The design in itself with it's muted shades of white, ivory, green and gold accents, has a lush, throwback feel which is fitting for the historical setting in which these large urns have been placed.
